Paint chips and fades, especially under the desert sun. Powder coating provides a stronger, more long-lasting solution for protecting and coloring your steel and other metal projects.

We offer two industrial spray booths, a drive-in sized oven and sand blasting facility, and are one of the only companies in the Las Vegas valley that perform a phosphate wash pre-treatment on all pherous and nonpherous metals prior to powder coating. This ensures the powder adheres evenly, bonds directly to the material, and provides long-lasting durability.  It is also much safer for the environment, and protects your metals from rust.

What is Powder Coating?

powder coatingPowder coating is a finishing process that has exploded in popularity across North America since it was first introduced nearly 50 years ago. It represents over 15% of the total industrial finishing market and is used on an innumerable amount of products. Most construction companies specify using powder coatings for a high-quality, durable finish. Used as both a protective and decorative finish, powder coatings are available in an almost limitless array of colors and textures.

How it Works

Powder coatings are based on polymer resin systems, combined with flow modifiers, curatives, leveling agents, pigments, and other types of modifiers. The ingredients are melted together, mixed, cooled off, and ground into a powder the consistency of baking flour. When a company wishes to apply a powder coating to a metal product, such as steel, they use something called electrostatic spray deposition.
In electrostatic spray deposition, the applicant uses a spray gun which gives an electrostatic charge to the powder. After the powder coating is applied to the metal product it is placed in a curing oven where the heat causes the coating to chemically react and create a high cross-link density chain. These molecular chains are very difficult to break down. This results in a long lasting coat on the product and is the most common method for applying powder coating to metal products such as steel.

Powder Coating Options

There are many powder coating options out there to fit a variety of different needs. Some you may consider include:

  • Epoxies –Epoxy powder coatings are often the best choice for applications requiring corrosion resistance.
  • Epoxy-Polyester Hybrid – Hybrid powder coatings are ideal for indoor applications and can be used on temperature-sensitive appliances such as radiators.
  • Polyesters – Polyester powder coatings are attractive and tough. They’re best suited for outdoor equipment, outdoor furniture, and other products that will be continuously exposed to the elements.
  • Polyurethanes – Polyurethane powder coatings offer extreme weather resistance against elements like humidity and salt spray. This type of powder coating might be well suited for a boat.
  • Acrylics – Acrylic powder coatings are available for automobiles. This type of powder coating provides impact resistance, abrasion resistance, and corrosion resistance.

Powder coatings on metal products are cost effective, environmentally friendly, and tough! They provide a high-quality finish and can protect against even the grizzliest of adversaries. Powder coated products are more resistant to moisture, chemicals, impact, and ultra violet light which can result in helping your powder coated product last a very, very long time. Protect your precious metals, whatever they may be, and consider adding on a powder coat today.
